K2K Planning Strategy given green light

Council endorsed the draft Kingsford to Kensington Planning Strategy and Proposal, which shapes the planning framework for the two town centres. The proposal, which will alter the Randwick Local Environmental Plan 2012, outlines the planning controls, urban design approach, affordable housing goals and plans to improve community amenity. It will now be submitted to the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment requesting that the amendments be made to Randwick Local Environmental Plan 2012. [More information here]

Funds to be raised for bushfire victims at Coogee Carols

Randwick City Council’s signature Coogee Carols event on Sunday 22 December at Coogee Beach will become a fundraising event for the victims of the bushfires which are currently affecting a significant part of NSW and Queensland. Council will donate $5,000 to the bushfire appeal along with $10,000 already pledged to the drought-affected communities of Temora and Narrabri Shire Councils. [More information here]

Malabar Magic Ocean Swim gets Council support

The Rainbow Club Australia’s annual swim event, The Murray Rose Malabar Magic Ocean Swim, will receive another five years of support from Council. The swim, held at Malabar Beach, is an inclusive event for swimmers of all abilities, who have the option of completing a fun splash, 250m, 1km or 2.5km swim as part of the day and attracts more than 1,000 swimmers. Council will waive fees totalling $14,500 for the 2021-25 period.

International swim meet to be held at Des Renford Leisure Centre

Fees to hire the Des Renford Leisure Centre pool for six days in March 2020 will be waived to support an international swimming competition. Local school Lycee Condorcet Sydney International French School will host the French Asia-Pacific Swimming Championship in March 2020, which will include 13 French schools from the Asia-Pacific region and more than 360 student athletes, aged 11 years and above. The fees will total $15,018.
