Randwick Mayor Ted Seng today, Tuesday 15 September 2015, announced the start of construction work on new synthetic playing fields at Heffron Park in Maroubra.

Construction of the new fields on Bunnerong Road is part of Randwick City Council’s $34M 10-year master plan to upgrade and improve the 44 hectare sporting reserve.

The new fields will be able to be used for a variety of sports including soccer, rugby union and rugby league and can accommodate eight mini fields or one large FIFA accredited field.

Randwick Mayor Ted Seng said:

“The construction of this purpose-built synthetic playing field is in recognition of the increasing demand for high quality playing fields in both summer and winter seasons. They’ll be able to be used for a variety of sports for local kids and I’m proud to be investing so significantly in the future of our area.”

Other works currently underway in the same north-west section of Heffron Park include new lighting, soccer fields and cricket pitches and a multi-purpose amenities building and car park.

During the past few years Council has completed a number of significant improvements to Heffron Park inline with the masterplan including the new Des Renford Leisure Centre, The Heffron Pedal Park, a new kids playgrounds, upgraded shared paths throughout the park, new clubhouses and amenities buildings and a new car park on Jersey Road.

Construction on the synthetic sports fields is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.
