Frequently asked questions about working with us

How do I know if my application has been received?
A pop up message will display on your screen advising that your application has been submitted. This means your application has been received.

You will also get sent a confirmation email straight after submitting your application. If you do not receive the confirmation email please contact us on one of the ways below.

What are the different ways I can submit an application?

Our preference is for you to send it online via our website, however you may also:

Do I have to be an Australian resident or citizen to apply?

For permanent roles you must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident. Occasionally some temporary or casual roles may allow for certain visas to be accommodated.

When should I expect to hear back about my application?

Under normal circumstances you will be contacted within 2 weeks of the closing date if you have been shortlisted for an interview. If you are not contacted to attend an interview, please understand that your application is not going to be progressed.

What if I don't meet some of the essential criteria?

The essential criteria is the minimum requirement for a job. If you have a query related to the essential criteria for a specific role, please call the nominated contact person.

Why am I am having trouble submitting my online application?

Either the position closing date is passed, or you have not completed all required fields or the size or format of your attachment may not be suitable or may be too large (5MB maximum).

Can I submit a general expression of interest for jobs that can be kept on file?

No, you must apply for specific jobs as they are advertised.

How do I address essential criteria?

The essential criteria outlines the minimum level of qualifications, skills and experience required to do the job. Within your application it is recommended that you make a separate heading for each criteria and tell us how you meet it through your skills, knowledge and experience. 

Is the advertised salary negotiable?

Council has a graded salary system with each position identified within that scale. Accordingly, a role will be advertised with the relevant salary within the scale. The annual performance review process can be linked to salary progression, if applicable.

A salary may be negotiated if the position is advertised as a Total Remuneration Package (TRP).
