Street banners honouring some of the pandemic’s unsung heroes including supermarket and outdoor workers are flying high in Coogee.

The banners feature brightly coloured original artworks titled ‘The Fabric of Society’ created by local artist Sandra Cipriotti and are funded as part of Randwick City Council’s Community Creative Investment Program.

Also featured on the banners are images depicting other COVID related occupations such as doctors, nurses, paramedics, police, health care workers, cleaners and the humble council worker.

Mayor Dylan Parker said the artworks mark the tremendous efforts of all those who have worked throughout the COVID pandemic.

“These banners are a testament to the resilience and commitment of the workers who have kept our community together throughout the pandemic,” Mayor Parker said.

“These banners are just one small way, of the many which we owe, to say thank you to the workers who have given up so much for us all.”

Artist Sandra Cipriotti said the artwork is about paying tribute.

“The Fabric of Society is a colourful tribute to the thousands of nameless heroes whose bravery and resilience has underpinned our response to the pandemic.

“I think everyone can relate to the homage to the persistence of life which is what the Aussie spirit is all about,” she said.

The Fabric of Society banners are flying at Coogee Beach until 3 April 2022.
