Frenchmans Bay Playground

A number of minor civil works will be done to the area surrounding Frenchmans Bay Playground and the playground itself, which was completed last year in 2020. The upgrades are intended to make the playground more usable and accessible for the community. While the work is being completed, the playground and certain surrounding areas will need to be closed to the public temporarily. Here’s what’s taking place:

New footpath constructed
Council will construct a new footpath to make easier access into the playground.

Additional shade sail added
A new shade sail will be constructed above the playground at Frenchmans Bay. This will provide more shade for children as they play. To install the shade sail, the playground will need to be closed for approximately two and a half weeks.

Proposed retaining wall to be built
Currently sand blows up off the beach and into the playground, making it slippery and messy for children to play in. Council will construct a sandstone retaining wall to replace the existing timber wall, which has deteriorated over time, and plant some new native gardens to prevent sand from blowing up into the playground.

Seating area to be reinstated
The old timber sleepers, which exist around the tree will be removed and replaced with newer and upgraded seating. This is a popular area for people to gather as the trees provide a natural shady spot. The new seating will provide visitors with a comfortable and more inviting seating spot.

Important dates
The project will be broken down into three stages: footpath installation, shade sail installation, and sandstone retaining wall installation.
