The planned upgrade of the children’s playground at Frenchmans Bay has commenced and will focus on creating a space that provides active play opportunities for toddlers through to primary school aged kids.
The concept plan has been designed to encourage social interaction, imagination and participation, while developing balance and coordination. To do this, the play activities include a central mound with pull up ropes, a large embankment slide and a theme play tug boat. A climbing pyramid, swings and a maze (perfect for games of hide and seek) have also been included.
“Play is a great way for children to develop their imagination, their physical confidence and their cognitive strengths, so when we develop concepts for our playgrounds we explore all the different play elements that will help kids to tap into these abilities,” stated Randwick Mayor Danny Said.
“These spaces are essential for so many local families, and I’m really pleased at how many of them turned up to our consultations and offered us their feedback. Together, we have created a great space for kids and I’m looking forward to being able to open the playground in a few months’ time.”
The new playground will include:
- Inclusive timber boat for imaginative play
- Ropeplay dome for climbing
- Swings with toddler seat, standard seat and basket seat
- Inclusive carousel for spinning
- Multiplay equipment for all ages
- Climbing mounds
- Embankment slide
- Rope climbing feature
- A larger recreational area
- New landscaping and seating
The project is part of Randwick Council’s COVID-19 Community Support Package. We are proceeding with the construction of new projects and upgrades as part of our support for local jobs and the economy.
