Priority parking for hospital workers and waiving a range of Council fees and charges are part of a $2.3M Randwick Council COVID-19 community support package announced by Randwick Mayor Danny Said on 25 March 2020.

The package was endorsed by a meeting of Council held last night at a larger venue at Little Bay and closed to the public to reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus.

The specific details of the package include the following :

Randwick Mayor Danny Said explains the package is an initial response by Council to the coronavirus pandemic.

“This is a once in a 100-year crisis facing our community and this is the first phase of a series of initiatives Randwick Council will be implementing to provide assistance for our community.

“We will provide practical support for hospital workers such as temporary parking permits and support for business and community tenants of Council-owned properties.

“Council fees and charges for services like outdoor dining permits, health inspections and fire inspections will also be waived.

“I have been in touch with many people, community groups and organisations across the Randwick Local Government Area, and whilst we have a resilient spirit, this pandemic has and will continue to result in widespread hardship.

“We are in unprecedented times, with great uncertainty regarding when the virus will be contained.

“Our community, like most communities across Australia and internationally, is suffering. People have lost their jobs, their livelihoods and their future is unclear. Our support package is a small first step to help our community locally,” explains Mayor Said.

In addition, Council is also using its communication and community service resources to work with local community groups to develop on-the-ground initiatives including business promotion and community support programs.
