The newly refurbished Coogee Surf Lifesaving Club, located at the southern end of Coogee Beach, was officially re-opened by Randwick Mayor Danny Said and Club President Todd Mison on Sunday 13 December 2020 at 9am.

The iconic building now boasts accessible facilities and internal lift, a flexible events and venue space for community events and functions, new windows to the north and east, a balcony on the east side and a new sea wall to protect the building during future weather events.

The $4.4M improvements were funded by Randwick City Council and NSW State Government grants.

“I’ve grown up on the eastern beaches and I know just how important surf lifesaving clubs are to our community, not just for the valuable service they provide, keeping swimmers safe on our beaches, but for the social cohesion they bring to a community, connecting individuals and promoting the value of volunteering,” stated Randwick Mayor Danny Said.

“It’s with no small amount of pride that we officially open the new look Coogee Surf Lifesaving Club today, knowing that it brings value to the entire community. It is more accessible, the internal space is flexible and can allow for a greater number of community events to be held here, it has improved the office space and facilities for the club, all while offering the most spectacular views over our coastline.

“Improvements to the sea wall mean it is better protected to handle future wild weather, such as the severe storm in 2016 that broke through the previous wall. This new refurbishment will mean the Coogee Surf Lifesaving Club building will continue to be a place for people to gather for generations to come.”

Michael Daley, Member for Maroubra, The Hon Matt Thistlethwaite, Member for Kingsford Smith and Dr Marjorie O’Neill, Member for Coogee will be present at the event along with Superintendent Rohan Cramsie, Inspector Anthony Agnew, Randwick City Councillors, Mayor Said and Club President Mison.
