Mahon Pool amenities opening 2019

Swimmers and visitors to Maroubra’s Mahon Pool can now enjoy brand new facilities built as part of Randwick Council’s Buildings for Our Community program, Mayor Kathy Neilson announced at its opening on Thursday 12 September 2019.

The $2.1M amenities building includes new male and female toilets and change rooms, accessible toilets, showers and a small clubhouse for the Maroubra Seals Winter Swim Club.

In addition, the area now boasts new seating, landscaping and improved pathways that link the building to the coastal walkway.

“Maroubra locals are understandably proud of Mahon Pool. Now, with these new amenities, a quick swim or a day spent by the ocean will be an even more enjoyable experience,” said Mayor Neilson.

“We listened closely when the community gave us feedback about what they wanted to see here and I think the results speak for themselves. Visitors and regular swimmers now have top quality toilets, showers and change rooms and the swim club have a great space to store everything they need to keep members warm after jumping into those icy waters every winter.

“The building itself is beautifully designed, blends in with the sandstone environment and provides one of the most spectacular views over the Pacific Ocean. I’m really pleased that we have been able to build this quality facility for the community and I know it will serve them well for years to come.”

The Maroubra Seals Winter Swimming Club has been meeting at Mahon Pool for regular Sunday morning races since 1959.

The 30-metre ocean pool is located just north of Maroubra Beach near Jack Vanny Reserve along the world-famous Eastern Beaches Coastal Walkway. It was built in 1932 and provides a calmer swimming option for lap swimmers and families.
