UPDATE: Sun 11 Mar 2018. Gordon's Bay and Malabar Beaches have reopened for swimming.

Randwick City Council has closed Gordon’s Bay today Friday 9 March 2018 due to a brown discolouration in the water.

The tiny beach is located along the popular Coastal Walkway between Coogee and Clovelly Beaches in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Council is investigating the source of the pollution and has taken tests. Initial observations indicate it's likely to be brown algae.

Swimming should be avoided for the remainder of the day as direct contact with algae can cause minor skin irritations

Malabar Beach has also been closed as a precaution.

It is anticipated the beach will reopen once the discolouration has dissipated.

Investigations are continuing.
