Bastille Day

Randwick Council will celebrate Bastille Day with French flair on Saturday July 14 at the La Perouse Museum and grounds from 9.30am until 2pm.

The French National Day will be marked with a wreath-laying ceremony and historical re-enactments, including the firing of two cannons, as well as entertainment provided by Paris-based, Australian jazz musician Chris Cody and his band.

The grounds of the Museum will feature traditional lawn games, croquet and petanque, and children can participate in a Parisian-style art lesson while audiences are entertained by a wandering accordion player.

“This is a great opportunity for the whole community to come to La Perouse and enjoy a day of free activities and entertainment that will appeal to the whole family,” said Randwick Mayor Lindsay Shurey.

“People will be able to enjoy a full day of entertainment here. In addition to the celebrations, there is now a coffee cart open at the Museum, which will be open until 4pm, so people can wander through and enjoy all of the exhibits on display.”

Members of the public are invited to visit the La Perouse Museum, which contains original maps, antique scientific instruments and relics recovered from the wrecks of La Perouse's frigates Boussole and Astrolabe.

The Museum is now open four days a week from 10am, with free entry.
