Residents are encouraged to line the route of the Queen’s Baton Relay to cheer on local baton bearers on Sunday 4 February 2018 in the lead up to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, Randwick Deputy Mayor Alexandra Luxford announced.
Two local runners and a marathon swimmer are among a group of 13 who will carry the Queen’s Baton with pride into La Perouse to cap off the Rediscover La Perouse event.
Long distance swimmer Susie Maroney OAM, marathon runner Heather Hawkins, Running for Premature Babies founder Sophie Smith, Chair of the La Perouse Local Aboriginal Land Council Marcia Ella-Duncan and President of Souths Juniors, Keith McCraw will be joined by locals David Morrow OAM and Ashley Jones for the memorable event.
“It would be wonderful for all of us to join together as a community, line the route leading to La Perouse and cheer on our runners,” said Deputy Mayor Alexandra Luxford. “They’re an incredibly accomplished group of people and I know they’d love to see friends, family and neighbours as they run with the Queen’s Relay baton.
