Council staff on Coogee Beach for the Water Safety Expo

Coogee Beach will be host to a Water Safety Expo run in conjunction with Randwick City Council on Saturday, 25 February between 10am to 3pm.

A major focus of the day will be about educating rock fishers about the new NSW Government legislation requiring mandatory lifejackets while rock fishing in Randwick City. The Old4New Lifejacket Program will also be on site, allowing people to upgrade their old lifejackets or to get their lifejackets checked to make sure they are in working order.

In addition, the day will feature general water safety for swimmers and boaties including swimming safety tips, survival techniques, boating safety and what to do in an emergency.

Mayor of Randwick, Noel D’Souza, believes the day will highlight important information for anyone that loves being in or by the water, swimmers, boaties and rock fishers alike.

“Being a coastal Council, we have some of the most beautiful spots in the eastern suburbs to swim, fish and explore.  But it’s important everyone takes the time to refresh their water safety skills and learn what to do in an emergency – it might just save your life,” said Mayor D’Souza.

The Water Safety Expo is a joint initiative of NSW Department of Primary Industries  (NSW Fisheries), Department of Justice, NSW Police (Marine Area Command), Marine Rescue NSW, Multicultural NSW, Randwick City Council, Recreational Fishing Alliance NSW, Roads and Maritime Services and Surf Life Saving NSW.
