Sydney's mighty mare Winx

The Australian Turf Club will throw open the gates at Royal Randwick Racecourse this Monday 13 February 2017.

The Star Apollo Stakes was postponed from Saturday to Monday because of Sydney’s extreme heat.

The program will see Sydney’s mighty mare Winx racing. She’s won her last 13 starts and is set to be rated the world’s best horse on turf. In racing circles she is being compared with Black Caviar.

Randwick Mayor Noel D’Souza thanked the ATC for opening the gates.

“Free entry to the racecourse gives everybody in the community the chance to see what may be history in the making,” the Mayor said.

“Royal Randwick Racecourse is an iconic institution in Randwick City and an important economic and tourist generator for the area.

“I’d like to congratulate the ATC for their community spirit. The race will be a great prelude to the new $10M Everest in October – the richest turf race in the world.”

The first race is at 1.20pm and the last at 6.50pm. The Star Apollo Stakes featuring Winx is race 8 starting at 5.40pm which provides enough time to get to the track after work.
