The Randwick City community will honour those who have fought and died for our country at a special dawn service at Coogee Beach.

Thousands of Sydneysiders are expected to gather at the beachside location on Monday 25 April 2016 to mark the memory of our ancestors and to pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in armed conflict.

Randwick Mayor Noel D’Souza said that Randwick City Council is proud to assist the Coogee Randwick Clovelly RSL sub-Branch to host this very special service.

“We are honoured to be working with the Coogee Randwick Clovelly RSL sub-Branch for the second year in a row and to offer a special service at Coogee Beach on Anzac Day,” Mayor D’Souza said.

“Each year, we as Australians pay tribute to this solemn day of remembrance,” Mayor D’Souza said. “Our country, our city and our community is safe and prosperous thanks to the bravery of our ANZAC heroes.

“Our community has a strong connection to the ANZACs with many servicemen and women coming from Randwick City and I hope everyone will take the opportunity to enjoy this special service on Anzac Day,” Mayor D’Souza said.

The event commences at 5am and will include an introduction, hymn, prayer, laying of wreaths and playing The Last Post. A number of local cafes and businesses in Coogee will open early for breakfast.

The ANZAC service at the Cenotaph at High Cross Park in Randwick will not be held this year due to the Coogee service.

Services will be held throughout Randwick City. View the complete list here.
