Randwick Mayor Ted Seng today welcomed a Federal Government $10M grant that will see the South Sydney Rabbitohs relocate to Heffron Park in Maroubra.

"This is fantastic news coming just days out from an historic grand final appearance," Mayor Seng said. "Randwick City is known as the sports coast and there is a massive support base in our City for the mighty Rabbitohs.

"I believe their move to Randwick City will be welcomed with open arms by our diverse community."

Randwick City Council has committed $3M towards building the $20M state-of-the-art High Performance Community Centre in Heffron Park to house the Rabbitohs' administration operations, training centre, and Souths Cares Program. The Club and NRL are also contributing funds.

Marcellin College, who currently hold a lease over a building on Robey Street and adjoining fields on the corner of Fitzgerald Avenue and Robey Street, have been a valued community partner of Council at Heffron Park for over 50 years. They have been involved in the development of the new proposal, and their current access and rights to fields will be maintained.

"Randwick City is awash with red and green. We've got hundreds of Rabbitohs street banners flying across Maroubra, Coogee, Kingsford, Kensington and Matraville and big banners on Randwick Town Hall. At night Randwick Town Hall is lit by red and green lights.

"We are installing a big outdoor screen at Coogee Beach in partnership with Botany Bay Council so people can watch the game live and free on Sunday night.

"Council has been a proud partner of Souths Cares for many years. The work they do with our local Indigenous community and young people by providing positive role models is to be commended.

"Randwick Council looks forward to continuing our strong relationship with the Rabbitohs and we wish them the best for Sunday's big match," Mayor Seng said.
