Words of Wisdom

Words of Wisdom - Celebrating the Seniors of Randwick City: 13 May - 2 July 2017

The Exhibition titled Words of Wisdom celebrated the knowledge, experience and life stories of older people living within the local community. A selection of thirty stories was presented in the Words of Wisdom Exhibition. The thirty contributors ranged in age from 55 years to 92 years old and had come to settle in Randwick and surrounds from countries as  diverse as India, Bolivia, Ghana, France, Russia and Vietnam. There was also a good representation from a number of Australians who were born and raised in the local area but all contributions no matter the age or background shared the same sense of humanity in what they chose to write about.

The result was an Immersive exhibition containing each contributor’s words of wisdom along with a collection of inspirational objects and wonderful individual portraits.

The Exhibition was launched by Mayor Clr Noel De Souza on Wednesday 17 May 2017. At the launch the Mayor commended that “no matter what background the contributors came from, they all shared the same sense of humanity; the importance of focusing on people, not things, and also of being accepting of yourself as well as others.”

A book containing their messages and portraits was also produced and is now available for purchase at the library.
