Chris’s debut novel Scrublands shot straight into bestseller lists. Set in a dry, dusty outback town, Scrublands established Hammer’s place among an elite handful of Australians who have made ‘Aussienoir’ a success. In Silver, Chris turns his forensic eye to an Australian coastal town.
“This sprawling and explosive outback thriller is a masterpiece.”
– Herald Sun on Scrublands
“A narrative of uncommon sophistication.”
– The Australian, Books of the Year
“Stellar … Richly descriptive writing coupled with deeply developed characters, relentless pacing, and a bombshell-laden plot make this whodunit virtually impossible to put down.”
– Publishers Weekly US, starred review
Before turning to fiction, Chris was a journalist for more than thirty years, dividing his career between covering Australian federal politics and international affairs. He reported from more than 30 countries on six continents for SBS TV. While in Canberra, his roles included chief political correspondent for The Bulletin, senior writer for The Age and Online Political Editor for Fairfax.
