Sustainability Rebates

Sustainability Rebates supports houses, units and businesses in Randwick to implement energy and water saving initiatives.

As part of this program, properties in Randwick can receive up to $2,000 in rebates for purchasing rooftop solar, rainwater tanks, pool pumps, insulation, or one or more of the other current rebate items listed below.

Current Rebates

Electric Vehicle Charger (New!)

Rebate:

Bike charging station: 25% up to $250

Car charging station (private): 25% up to $500

Car charging station (shared / multiple): 25% up to $2,000

Overview:

Charge from home and future proof your property!

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for houses, units and businesses in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • Must be installed by a licenced electrician.
  • Shared car chargers must be smart enabled.
  • Installed after 1 January 2021.
  • Limit of one per dwelling.

Energy Assessment

Rebate:

50% up to $150

Overview:

Energy assessments help you find out where you use energy and how you can reduce it. You can request a quote from the Australian Energy Foundation or from another reputable provider.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for houses, units and businesses in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • Must be provided by a licenced professional.
  • Purchased after 1 January 2021.
  • Limit of one per dwelling.

Hot Water System

Rebate:

  • Water Heater: 50% up to $500
  • Pool Heater: 25% up to $250

Overview:

Hot water systems are typically the largest user of energy in homes and are great opportunities for energy reductions. You can request a quote from the Australian Energy Foundation or from another installer. Council recommends requesting minimum two quotes.

When installing an electric heat pump or a rooftop solar hot water system, you are also eligible for the Federal Government's STC rebate which is arranged for you by your installer.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for houses, units and businesses in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • Must install either an electric heat pump or a rooftop solar hot water system for your property or pool.
  • Must be a Clean Energy Council accredited hot water system.
  • Installed after 1 January 2021.
  • Must not be required for BASIX compliance purposes.
  • Limit of one per dwelling.

Insulation

Rebate:

50% up to $500

Overview:

Insulation reduces the flow of heat into your home in summer and out of your home in winter. You can request a quote from the Australian Energy Foundation or from another installer. Council recommends requesting minimum two quotes.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for houses, units and businesses in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • Must be installed by a professional installer
  • Ceiling insulation must have a minimum R value of 3.5.
  • Sub-floor insulation must have a minimum R value of 1.4.
  • Installed after 1 January 2021.
  • Must not be required for BASIX compliance purposes.
  • Limit of one per dwelling.

R value is a measurement of insulation’s resistance to heat transfer

Lighting

Rebate:

25% up to $500

Overview:

Replacing old lights with efficient LEDs is one of the easiest and most effective ways of reducing energy use. You can request a quote from the Australian Energy Foundation or from another installer. Council recommends requesting minimum two quotes.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for houses, units and businesses in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • Must replace either halogen, fluorescent or incandescent lights.
  • Must be installed by a licenced electrician.
  • Installed after 1 January 2021.
  • Must not be required for BASIX compliance purposes.
  • Limit of one per dwelling.

NABERS Rating (New!)

Rebate:

First rating: 50% up to $2,000

Second rating: 50% up to $1,000

Overview:

NABERS is a national rating system that measures the environmental performance of buildings and tenancies. Receiving a NABERS rating allows you to validate and compare your building's environmental performance, track your improvements and gain a competitive edge.

NABERS ratings are currently available for: apartment buildings, data centres, hotels, office buildings, office tenancies, public hospitals, residential aged care, retirement living and shopping centres.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for NABERS ratings in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • Must be provided by a NABERS Accredited Assessor.
  • Must include an efficiency opportunities report.
  • Must not be a mandatory rating.
  • Completed after 1 January 2021.

Pool Pump

Rebate:

50% up to $250

Overview:

In households with a swimming pool or spa, the pump is usually the largest user of electricity. In a recent report prepared by the University of New South Wales in partnership with Randwick Council, efficient pool pumps were found to reduce pool pump energy consumption by an average of 71% and save over $450 per year in electricity bills.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for houses, units and businesses in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • New pool pumps and pool pump controllers must have a minimum 7 Energy Star Rating (check your rating here).
  • New pool pumps and pool pump controllers must be installed by a licenced professional for swimming pool filtration only.
  • Installed after 1 January 2021.
  • Must not be required for BASIX compliance purposes.
  • Limit of one per dwelling.

Rainwater Tank

Rebate:

Houses: 50% up to $500

Units and Businesses: 50% up to $1,000

Overview:

Rainwater tanks capture excess water from your roof for use in garden areas or reducing mains water supply. See Sydney Water's rainwater tanks page for more information.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only available for houses, units and businesses in the Randwick Local Government Area.
  • Minimum capacity of 1,000 litres.
  • Must be installed by a licensed plumber.
  • Installed after 1 January 2021.
  • Must not be required for BASIX compliance purposes.
  • Limit of one per dwelling.

Internal connection examples include connections to toilets, internal taps and laundries.

Rooftop Solar

Rebate:

Houses: 25% up to $500

Businesses and units (private):  25% up to $1,000

Units (shared): 25% up to $2,000

Overview:

Almost 1 in 4 houses in Australia already have rooftop solar, and over 3,000 of them are here in Randwick. You can request a quote from the Australian Energy Foundation or from another installer. Council recommends requesting minimum two quotes.

Solar Battery

Overview:

  • Must be connected to an existing or new solar PV system.
  • Installed after 1 January 2021.

Solar Health Check

Rebate:

50% up to $100

Overview:

Solar health checks will tell you if your rooftop solar is working effectively and if any maintenance is required. You can request a quote from the Australian Energy Foundation or from another reputable provider. Council recommends requesting minimum two quotes.

WaterFix®

Rebate:

WaterFix® Residential: 50% up to $100

WaterFix® Strata: 50% up to $2,000

Overview:

WaterFix® Residential is an initiative of Sydney Water to provide free or subsidised replacements of inefficient taps, showerheads, toilets, aerators and leak repairs. Visit WaterFix® Residential call 1800 807 475 for more information or to make an appointment.

WaterFix® Strata delivers large scale, cost-effective water savings to inefficient residential strata-managed buildings. Over 87% of water use in apartment buildings occurs within each apartment, mostly from showers. Strata buildings in the program have achieved water savings of up to 30%. If there is a fee for our WaterFix® job, the cost will be added to your Sydney Water bills.

Application Process

1. Check the Eligibility Criteria

Review the Eligibility Criteria for your chosen rebate item. To be eligible to receive a sustainability rebate, your rebate item must be installed after 1 January 2021.

2. Purchase your Rebate Item

Purchase your rebate item from your chosen provider or installer. Ensure that your purchase meets the Eligibility Criteria for your chosen rebate item.

3. Submit an Application Form

Submit an Application Form and attach a recent electricity bill, a photo of your rebate item (if applicable) and a copy of the invoice from your rebate item provider. Click 'Apply Now' to submit an application form.

4. Receive your Sustainability Rebate

If your form is approved by Council, you will receive your sustainability rebate via electronic bank transfer. Be sure to check your junk mailbox for your rebate approval email.
