The international award-winning MURPHYS PUPPETS brings Arlecchino, the lovable, rascally King of Clowns and Puppets from his native Italy to Australia. In Italy the Drama Critic of the national newspaper, L’Unita, called Dennis Murphy “one of the world’s finest glove-puppeteers.”
Arlecchino has arrived in his most famous form - the puppet show booth - to entertain and enchant young and old. When the wicked witch of this rollicking comedy kisses Harlequin he turns into a frog. If he can’t find a beautiful girl to kiss him, he will have to stay a frog, give up spaghetti and eat flies instead! Audiences are whisked back to the carnival world of travelling Mask comedians. The comedy features all the old masked characters of the Italian pantomime: a world populated by misers, wenches, bragging soldiers, enchanted animals and zany clowns. With lots of laughter and audience participation, children love to join in the action, while adults smile and pick up the more subtle satire that is a hallmark of the traditional puppet shows. Dennis Murphy is the principal puppeteer behind MURPHYS PUPPETS. Through extensive touring and close observation of people in many lands he has developed a crowd of puppet-characters with strange voices, weird accents and human eccentricities.
Each year MURPHYS PUPPETS are seen by and entertain tens of thousands. In Russia, the company was awarded the “Ural Citation for Excellence”. In Italy the Drama Critic of the national newspaper, L’Unita, called Dennis Murphy “one of the world’s finest glove-puppeteers.”
