The Souths Cares team has been busy during the Covid-19 pandemic, supporting local community members in need. Each week staff have been visiting families in Chifley, Malabar, Matraville and Little Bay to provide food hampers, education and wellbeing support.

The charity delivers a range of community programs within Randwick LGA including the Nanga Mai Marri (Dream Big) Program, Deadly Youth Mentoring Program and the Rabbitohs Wellbeing Program. School closures and social distancing have provided a number of challenges for delivering community programs, requiring a flexible and innovative approach to the way in which vital community support is provided.

William Last is a Matraville resident and a mentor in the Nanga Mai Marri Program. He has seen firsthand the impact of Covid-19 on the local community.

“Giving back to our community is vital during these times of need, especially for our elders who are struggling to do their shopping. The smiles on people’s faces when we visit shows how important this support is during difficult times”.

Randwick City Council has been a proud partner of Souths Cares for many years, working together to support the local community and address social needs across the South Sydney region.

Souths Cares will be continuing to support disadvantaged families throughout Randwick LGA during the Covid-19 pandemic, and are looking forward to resuming school workshops and normal service delivery later in the year.
