Visitors to the outdoor gym in Burrows Park, Clovelly will have more space and new equipment to use following the unveiling of the new, upgraded facility, Randwick Mayor Danny Said announced today.

The popular gym was closed in December 2019 when it was found that rust had caused extensive damage to the previous equipment and needed to be replaced.

As part of Council’s commitment to improving facilities, the recreational area was increased to accommodate new pieces of corrosion resistant gym equipment and to include the installation of new softfall made from recycled material.

“Exercising outdoors provides a mental boost that can’t be replicated indoors,” stated Mayor Said. “Studies have indicated that it helps to lift people’s mood and reduce depression, which I know is very important for a lot of people right now.

“Equally important is that these outdoor gyms are free to use and available for everyone. We currently have five outdoor gyms within the Randwick City area, all designed so that people with different fitness levels, ages and abilities can use them.

“We do ask that people keep themselves safe by washing their hands or using sanitiser before and after use, keeping 1.5m distance between each other and to limit group gatherings to no more than 10 people.”

Along with a new multipurpose gym station, the 17 new pieces of equipment will include Chest Press, Seated Row, Lateral Pull Down, Shoulder Press, Bench, Leg Press, Hand Bike, Spinning Bike, Cross Trainer and Recumbent Bike among others.

Outdoor gyms are also located at Chifley Reserve, Kensington Park, Maroubra Beach and Frenchmans Bay Beach.
