UPDATE: These works are complete and Mahon Pool reopened on Sunday 2 August 2020.

Mahon Pool in Maroubra will temporarily close from Monday 27 July 2020 while urgent safety works are undertaken to remove a large boulder in the pool.

The boulder – estimated at 25 tonnes – was washed into the pool during a recent storm and is now causing a safety risk to swimmers.

Randwick City Council has engaged specialist contractors to break the rock into small pieces to relocate it away from the pool area.

The pool is likely needed to be drained and the work will mostly be done with hand-held tools and machines.

Work is expected to commence during the week of 27 July 2020 and is due to be completed in about a week of commencement (weather and tide permitting).

Access to the Ocean Pool will be restricted during removal process. Works will take place during daylight hours.

Council will endeavour to keep all roads and other beach access open, however traffic control may be implemented in order to keep visitors to the area safe.

Council apologises in advance for any inconvenience and appreciates the cooperation of local residents and pool users while these urgent works are undertaken.
