Upgraded playground at Frenchmans Bay

It was a big day for kids! After months of hard work and construction, the newly upgraded playground at Frenchmans Bay was officially opened to the public in a COVID-safe way on Tuesday 11 August.

Randwick City Mayor, Danny Said was there to cut the official ribbon and was lucky enough to enjoy a few hours of playtime with some local kids who were just as excited as him about the new play space.

Mayor Danny Said opens the playground for the kids to use for the first time!

"This playground is a great opportunity for families to come down and enjoy this fabulous area. It's another wonderful reason to come and visit La Perouse," stated Mayor Danny Said.

The project, which began earlier this year, after a thorough consultation with the local community, has resulted in a bright, spacious, fenced-in playground with plenty of places to jump, climb, slide, swing and spin. Plus, the wooden boat and watchtower are ideal for imaginary play. Ahoy there, matey, there could be a pirate out in the bay!

"I really like the green spinning wheel!" Zoe told us, while Christian told us he loves climbing. From climbing walls, to ladders to the web of ropes - there's plenty of opportunity to do just that!

But more than just a new playground, the goal was to create a place for the community to come and feel at home. There are BBQs nearby as well as picnic tables and plenty of space to throw a rug. Families can enjoy a day splashing in the bay, cook up a sausage sizzle and have a play in the playground, while grabbing a coffee or some takeaway fish and chips from a nearby cafe or restaurant.

We hope everyone gets a chance to come and enjoy this beautiful part of our City and this fantastic new playground! When you do, please remember to wash or sanitise hands before and after use and be sure to maintain social distancing.
