La Perouse sunset

We know we live in a special place – the beaches, the coastal walk the beautiful reserves and parks. With so much beauty, we’ve seen some pretty great photos of our local area shared across social media. We decided to join the fun and do a bit of analysis of our local area and find five of the most picturesque places in Randwick City. Here’s where we think you can find a pretty nice view to proudly post to your social media channels. If you do visit, don’t forget to tag us @randwickcouncil and we can share your image. #Enjoy!

  1. The Coogee Impressionists’ Seat
This seat was sculpted by Eileen Starke and commemorates the spot where Tom Roberts and Charles Condor, two famous impressionist Australian painters of the Heidelberg School, painted their famous Coogee Beach landscapes in 1888. Two years later, Sir Arthur Streeton also painted the famous view. This ‘Impressionists Seat’ sculpture was unveiled on April 5 2009. Join the artists and snap your own view.

  2. Sunset at the Macquarie Watchtower
It’s a rare opportunity on the east coast of Australia to see the sunset over the water, but that’s exactly what you’ll get at the watchtower in La Perouse. Definitely the perfect spot to sit and take in the view as the sun goes down.

  3. The Maroubrix Cube
Most people who visit Maroubra are aware of this retro piece of art located at the northern end of the beach. The cube is actually an exhaust stack from the stormwater drain. The story goes that a community group or local resident had the idea to paint it to give it a bit of character. It has since become an iconic Maroubra landmark.

  4. Sunrise at Gordons Bay
The walk between Coogee and Clovelly always prompts a stop at Gordons Bay. In the summer, the rocks are strewn with sun bakers while the water is the perfect place the float on a colourful lilo.  In winter, the cooler water and empty beach remain stunning as a string of small fishing boats dot the entrance to the bay. Sunrise is the ideal time to snap an insta-worthy shot of this treasured bay.

  5. Malabar Headland Western Walking Track
Just when you thought ocean vistas was all we had to offer here in Randwick City, this walking track shows off our bushland beauty (although it has plenty of ocean views too). Get outside and enjoy the track as it winds around Malabar Headland.

If you do head to one of these beautiful locations (or any location in Randwick City), don’t forget to snap a shot and tag @randwickcouncil on Instagram so we can see how you enjoy our beautiful city.
