The new $6M Heffron Park Tennis Centre in Maroubra’s Heffron Park will be officially opened on Saturday 10 August 2019 by Randwick Mayor Kathy Neilson as part of a free community event and celebration.

The new Randwick Council facility located on Bunnerong Road includes an acrylic surface show court, nine synthetic and turf courts and a clubhouse with kiosk and changing facilities.

Council has appointed Sydney Sports Management Group (SSMG) to run the centre as part of a 5 + 5 year lease arrangement.

Randwick Mayor Kathy Neilson said:

“The opening of the Tennis Centre is another significant step in our Heffron Park masterplan. The western edge of Heffron Park is being transformed with a new synthetic sports field opened recently, new amenities buildings, basketball court, handball court and now the Tennis Centre.

“Planning is also well progressed for a new indoor sports centre, indoor gymnastics centre and the South Sydney Rabbitohs High Performance Centre to be built nearby.

“Together these works will further cement Heffron Park’s status as the premier sporting destination in Sydney’s east. I’m very pleased to have awarded the tender to SSMG – a well-known facility management company with a track record of working closely with the community,” Mayor Neilson said.

Richard Price the CEO of SSMG and a local resident said:

“Sydney Sports Management Group is delighted to be awarded the contract and look forward to partnering with Randwick Council, Tennis NSW and Eastern Suburbs Tennis Association,” Mr Price said.

“We recognise the significant investment of Council in the Heffron Park precinct and the tennis facility and look forward to welcoming the community to the free open day on Saturday 10 August.

“SSMG’s vision is to create a community hub and maximise usage of this important community asset. With more people hitting more balls, we hope to see the next Ash Barty come from this impressive facility,” Mr Price said.

SSMG is an established privately-owned Australian Specialist Facilities Management Company with over 30 years of experience owning and successfully managing a variety of Leisure and Sporting Centres.

They will be working closely with Tennis NSW, local schools, Eastern Suburbs Tennis Association (ESTA), the local community and Council.

Staff from the existing tennis centre will be offered continued employment and all bookings including school and community group bookings will continue.

The centre will provide a range of options including casual bookings as well as programmed activities such as HotShots (Tennis Australia), Cardio Tennis (Tennis Australia), organised social play, evening competition, private lessons, group lessons, table tennis and membership options. The courts will be open for the whole community to play.

The centre is planned to open 7am – 10pm Monday – Friday and 7am – 8pm on weekends.

For more information about the new centre and for bookings email heffronpark@ssmgroup.com.au.

More information about the official opening will be available soon on Randwick Council’s website.
