Traffic changes in Phillip Bay

Car hoons travelling to La Perouse will be met with traffic changes this weekend designed to slow and deter the so called ‘car enthusiasts’ from racing and congregating on the residential streets.

Randwick City Council has installed temporary traffic calming devices along Yarra Road in Phillip Bay to narrow sections of the residential street to one lane as well as installing high visibility barricades and speed humps.

The changes are the latest initiative by the Council and local police to address an ongoing problem for the area.

Other initiatives in recent years include No Stopping restrictions in the evening to stop parking in certain areas, a locked gate on The Loop at La Perouse and speed humps along key streets in La Perouse.

Police from the Eastern Beaches Local Area Command regularly patrol the area to enforce road rules.

Council is also exploring the option of installing CCTV cameras in known hot spots to discourage anti-social behavior and give police greater ability to follow up and prosecute offenders.

The traffic changes are part of a trial and Council will evaluate its impact in consultation with local residents.
