What do you give the woman in your life who has given you everything? Slippers, perfume, a photo frame? Chances are, you’ve probably already given her these numerous times. And how did that go for you? How do you say to mum exactly how much you appreciate her?
Well, what all mums really want for Mother’s Day is to spend time with you. It’s that simple and yes it really is the thought that counts!
With this is mind we’ve come up with some great Mother’s Day ideas that you can do together in Randwick City to spend time with her and show her how much you care.
1. Take her on a picnic
Randwick City is the picnic capital of Australia. Okay so we can’t prove that, but if it’s not, then it should be as there’s no shortage of beautiful spots to have a picnic. Our top suggestions are La Perouse, Jack Vanny Reserve in Maroubra, Burrows Park in Clovelly and Centennial Parklands.
2. Go on a bush walk
Despite being only kilometres from the Sydney CBD, there are a range of beautiful walks around Randwick City that you can do together with your mum, and most are relatively short and not difficult. Our top tips are Fred Hollows Boardwalk (note steep sections of stairs) between Randwick and Clovelly, the Coogee to Clovelly Coastal Walkway, the newly opened Boora Point trail in Malabar Headland National Park or the undiscovered Bush Tucker Trail at Yarra Bay.
3. Do a course together
Council offers a range of great sustainability courses. Some of the courses go for a few hours while others run over a number of weeks. You can take courses in gardening, creating native havens, backyard chooks, bicycle maintenance, balcony gardening, decluttering and more!
4. Attend a talk
Did you know Randwick City Library offers a range of great events, workshops and author talks - and most are free or low-cost? Why not take mum for a literary experience to a free author talk - come along to a Sydney Writers’ Festival talk by novelist Zoe Morrison to discuss her acclaimed debut novel Music and Freedom on 25 May.
5. Get a worm farm
Nothing says you're the greatest mum like a bin full of worms. Okay, so this one probably isn't for everyone, but if your mum is into gardening and organics then this could be a fun and quirky present. Randwick City residents get 80% off RRP and free delivery of your choice of a worm farm or compost bin.
From all of us at Randwick City Council, have a Happy Mother’s Day!
