Coral Sea Park basketball courts

New basketball courts are now open in Coral Sea Park, Maroubra just in time for the winter basketball season, Randwick Mayor Noel D’Souza announced today.

Coral Sea Park was chosen by Randwick City Council in response to community requests for more outdoor basketball courts to complement those already at Heffron Park and Little Bay.

“These junior courts are the first of their kind in Randwick City,” says Randwick Mayor, Noel D’Souza. “I know many young people and their parents are looking forward to having them open.

“We’ve listened to our residents and local sporting groups who have all said that there is a need for courts as well as sports fields. Many sporting groups in Randwick City are increasing their participation base and there is a need to accommodate them as well as their young players.

“Basketball is a fast-growing sport and courts are popular in schools, so we’re pleased to ensure young enthusiasts have access to courts outside of school hours and on weekends.

“This investment in our sporting future is in line with Council’s commitment to encouraging healthy and active recreation options for young people.”

Adjoining cricket nets have also been upgraded and the area between the two facilities have been re-turfed and landscaped.
