Surfing Walk of Fame 2017 inductees announced

Randwick Mayor Noel D’Souza will unveil the 2017 inductees to the Australian Surfing Walk of Fame at Maroubra Beach on Sunday 23 July 2017 during the Beach Breaks Carnival.
The Australian Surfing Walk of Fame at Maroubra Beach was initiated in 2006 and is the first of its kind in Australia. It pays tribute to the outstanding achievements of Australia’s leading surfers and surf life savers. A prestigious and sought after award, inductees are highly regarded as Legends of Surf.
This year’s inductees are:
- Candice Warner (nee Falzon) - 19 Surf Life Saving national medals, NSW Iron Woman Champion 1999 & 2013, Professional Series Coolum 2012
- Graham “Johno” Johnson - Australian Surf Life Saving Championships 1966 – 1975, Olympian 1972
- Tony White - GUNSTON 500, South Africa 1977, Stubbies Surf Classic and Coca Cola Surfabout 1977 – 1980, Pioneer of pro-surfing & role model
- Kevin Davidson - 2SM/Coca Cola Surfabout 1978, Local Maroubra surfing mentor
“Each of these Australian sporting heroes will have their very own plaque on the Maroubra Beach promenade, to forever commemorate and celebrate their remarkable achievements,” said Randwick Mayor, Noel D’Souza.
“The importance of Maroubra Beach to the surfing and beach communities cannot be understated, and I’m glad that each year Beach Breaks and the Surfing Walk of Fame is able to draw attention to its cultural and historical significance.”
New inductees to the Australian Surfing Walk of Fame will be unveiled from 1pm. Beach-based fun starts at 9am with the Surfing NSW Grommets Title. The Beach Breaks Carnival commences at noon, with a range of free activities and entertainment until 4.30pm.
Activities include:
- Free surfboard and skateboard airbrushing
- Sand sculptures
- Free amusement rides
- Free face painting
- Music from our Festival DJ
