Randwick City Council has unveiled a new outdoor gym at Kensington Park, the fifth facility in the Randwick City area.
Positioned across two areas and surrounded by landscaped lawns, the low resistance equipment allows residents and visitors to get fit whilst enjoying the great outdoors. Its position adjacent to the Kensington Oval also means users can watch a sports game as they exercise.
The gym is located near the former Kensington Bowling Club which has now been turned into a new community centre by the Council. The new centre is available to hire for functions and activities, and will be officially opened at a celebration on Saturday 8 July 2017.
The Park also
has a half basketball court and a kids’ playground.
Council has already installed outdoor gyms at Maroubra Beach, Frenchmans Bay and at Chifley Sports Reserve. Randwick Mayor Noel D'Souza says they're a well-received asset for the local community:
"Outdoor gyms cater for residents who want to improve their fitness without signing up for a gym membership. By creating a gym in what is already a beautiful and well-used space, we can offer residents the chance to stay healthy and get outdoors at the same time."
Each piece of gym equipment is made from corrosion-resistant metal and is located on a soft fall rubber surface. Signage is also installed on how to use each piece of equipment.
The Kensington Park Community Centre Official Opening takes place on Saturday 8 July from 10am at 1 Day Lane, Kensington.
