Maroubra Fence

Randwick Council is working closely with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to remove fragments of material containing asbestos found this week at the Jack Vanny Reserve in Maroubra.

Council has engaged an Occupational Hygienist to assess the site after EPA testing returned preliminary results of the presence of chrysotile (white) asbestos.

A resident reported seeing fragments of asbestos along the walking trails and grass direct to the EPA who later informed Council.

Randwick Council has fenced the area as a precaution and air monitoring will be conducted during activities.

Council will seek recommendations from an Occupational Hygienist regarding remediation options for the site.

It is unknown at this point where the fragments originated from as Jack Vanny Reserve is not a known former landfill site.
