The Sustainability Team holding the awards Council won

Randwick City Council scooped the Blue Star Sustainable Cities Awards on Wednesday night, taking out 5 category awards as well as being recognised in the Overall Sustainable Council category.

The Council’s success at the NSW Awards will see Randwick City Council represent NSW for the Australian Sustainable Cities Award to be held in Victoria later this year.

The Council was up against five other finalists from other regional and metropolitan local councils across NSW and won five awards including:

Mayor of Randwick, Noel D’Souza, was delighted at the Council’s success in the Blue Star Sustainable Cities Awards and said it was a testament to the hardworking sustainability team.

“It is always a privilege to have our sustainability achievements recognised as being at the forefront of our colleagues across local government.

“These results reflect the passion and commitment of staff right across Council, but they also demonstrate the great commitment and collaboration between our Councillors and our community when it comes to working together for a sustainable future,” he said.

Chief Executive of Keep NSW Beautiful, David Imrie, said Randwick City Council is constantly going above and beyond their duty of care to the environment and their community – and are continuously re-evaluating their practices to aim higher and do better.

“Their waste management, water conservation, litter reduction, and heritage conservation projects are innovative, ambitious, and above all: are succeeding in building a brighter, better, healthier Randwick,” Mr Imrie said.
