Randwick City Council is a finalist in the 2016 NSW International Student Awards recently announced by Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres.

Organised by StudyNSW within the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet, the awards see 17 students and organisations nominated in the categories of 'English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students' (ELICOS); 'Higher Education', 'Schools', 'Vocational Education and Training' (VET), 'Business/Community Group Engagement' and 'Education Provider'.

The NSW Police and Randwick Council partnered to organise the international beach soccer day. The initiative was developed to bridge the gap between the international student community and the NSW Police.

The second aim was for the community to meet and spend time with international students, and for international students to get involved with the local community. In addition, the Council lifeguards come along and speak to students about beach safety.

The Mayor has attended every Beach Soccer Day, welcoming students and reinforcing the fact that they are a vital part of the community. Students said that the event had broken social and cultural barriers which sometimes prevent students from interacting and discussing issues with the Police.
