Randwick City Council’s Manager of Corporate and Financial Planning, Mitchel Woods, was a finalist for the coveted Rising Star Awards at the annual Australian Accounting Awards.

The award recognises the most outstanding accountant in Australia who has demonstrated an exemplary commitment to success in their accounting career, including activities and strategies to position themselves for future success.

Mitchel has worked for Randwick City Council for the past eight years, previously working for local government in Blayney and Narrabri Shire Councils.  He was named Young Financial Manager of the Year for the 2012 Capital CFO Awards and was listed in the 2012 Top 40 under 40 Young Business Leaders List in INTHEBLACK Magazine.

Mitchel’s achievements at Council have included having one of the highest Financial Reporting Efficiency Ratings in NSW Local Government over the last five years, including being the number 1 for 2016.  He also was Chairman of the Local Government Finance Professionals 2015/16 Financial Year during a period of significant transition in the Council arena.

Mayor of Randwick, Noel D’Souza, believes Mitchel’s contribution to Council has been significant and his nomination for the award is a testament to his commitment and hard work.

“Mitchel is a dedicated member of the team at Council, constantly striving to achieve financial milestones to benefit local residents.  Mitchel also helps manage the Council’s $168 million budget ensuring that not only is Randwick City one of the most financially sustainable councils in the country but also remains debt-free,” said Mayor D’Souza.
