Recipients of 2016/17 Cultural & Community Grants Announced

Randwick City Council announced today the nine recipients of the 2016/17 Cultural and Community Grants Funding Program, which helps provide financial support to a wide range of projects that encourage participation in the community.

Mayor of Randwick, Noel D’Souza, said these organisations are helping to roll-out projects, events or activities that encourage local community participation and social cohesion. 

“Council is proud to support local community projects that bring together residents and visitors alike to enjoy cultural and creative activities in Randwick City.  In just eight years, we’ve been able to give over $700,000 to the community, supporting 142 projects through 88 organisations. 

“We’re thrilled this year to be giving over $50,000 in cash and in-kind support to nine very worthwhile community projects,” said Mayor D’Souza.

The nine recipients include: 

Coogee Surf Life Saving Club
Coogee Island Challenge
Provision of in-kind support to host the Coogee Island Challenge swims in November 2016 and April 2017.

Coogee Surf Life Saving Club
Coogee Carnival
Provision of in-kind support to host the Coogee Carnival, promoting the role of surf-lifesaving and awareness in the community.

Guriwal Aboriginal Corporation
Guriwal Aboriginal Women’s Breast Cancer Morning Tea

In-kind and $5,000 cash contribution to hold the Breast Cancer Morning Tea at the Prince Henry Centre as part of awareness-raising of the disease to local Aboriginal community members.

Holdsworth Community
Dinner Dance in celebration of International Day of People with a Disability

In-kind and cash contribution to hold a dinner dance on the International Day of People with a Disability at the Prince Henry Centre, which will be free to adults living with a disability and their carers who live in Randwick.

Indonesian Welfare Association
Indonesian Welfare Association Maroubra Group

In-kind support to use the Maroubra Senior Citizens Centre for their weekly meetings to reduce social isolation and provide activities for the Indonesian community.

Kooloora Community Centre
Kooloora’s Christmas Celebration

Cash contribution for the Christmas celebration to promote social inclusion and connections between residents who often do not have any other social support.

La Perouse Aboriginal Land Council
Carols by the Sea

In-kind and cash contribution to host culturally appropriate Carols by the Sea event for the local Aboriginal community with activities for children and with a ‘black Santa’ in attendance.

St Andrew’s Catholic Church
Pere Receveur Commemoration Mass

Cash contribution to hold the Pere Receveur Mass on the grounds of the La Perouse Museum.  The Mass commemorates the French priest Pere Receveur, a naturalist with the La Perouse expedition who is the first known Frenchman to be buried in NSW at La Perouse.

The Junction Neighbourhood Centre
Our Voices:  Matraville Family Fun Day

In-kind and cash contribution to host the Matraville Family Fun Day at the Memorial Park in Matraville.
