Council, Mayor's Messages

This year is shaping up to be a big 12 months for Randwick City Council. Last week the NSW Government released details of its merger proposal for a new eastern beaches council involving Randwick, Waverley and Woollahra councils. While our preference has always been to stand alone, it was clear through the Fit for the Future process that this was not an option, so we have achieved the next best thing.

We all have an important role to play to ensure the new eastern beaches council meets the current and future needs of our community. As such I am calling on each and everyone one of you to view the proposal and to have your say. For further information, visit www.councilboundaryreview.nsw.gov.au.

Finally I would like wrap up this week’s column by thanking everyone who attended Coogee Sparkles on New Year’s Eve. We had over 30,000 people gather along our coastline to enjoy the spectacular 22 minute fireworks display. I think you’ll all agree, it was a great way to bring in the New Year.
