Council, Mayor's Messages

Last week we reached an important milestone in local government reform— the NSW Government Merger Proposal Public Inquiry on Thursday 4 February.

Thank you to all residents who offered feedback at the Inquiry, your contribution is greatly appreciated.

It was with great care and responsibility that I addressed the NSW Government Delegate, Dr Robert Lang on the government’s plan to merge Woollahra, Waverley and Randwick Councils. I believe the option presented is sensible for our community and staff.

Living in the iconic eastern suburbs we are fortunate to share many commonalities among our open spaces and natural coastal landscapes, for example we have three national parks, seven golf courses, 28 beaches and 16 ocean pools and swimming enclosures.

The proposed merger also protects our way of life in Randwick, retains a strong community of interest and identity, and will result in increased services and facilities.

Let me assure you that building and maintaining a sense of community is at the heart of everything we do. The details of the Boundary Review will be released shortly and I look forward to sharing the results with you in coming weeks.
