Last week marked the beginning of Chinese New Year celebrations all around the world and on Saturday I had the pleasure of attending Randwick and Botany Council’s very own Chinese New Year Festival in Dacey Gardens. Mother Nature turned out some spectacular weather for the thousand plus people who came to celebrate the Year of The Monkey and enjoy the delicious food stalls, music and lion dancing. As Mayor of Randwick, I am very proud of our diverse, multicultural community. It is also great to see Randwick and Botany Councils strengthening their relationship and building strong communities, irrespective of Council boundary lines.

Council also broke ground on the Kensington Community Centre project which will see the old Bowling Club turned into a state-of-the art community facility. This is one of Council’s biggest construction projects for the year and will include new rooms for hire, onsite parking, half basketball court, additional landscaping and footpaths. An outdoor gym will also be built in the adjacent park as part of the upgrade. Work is expected to be completed by late 2016.
