Locals are invited to Lexington Place, South Maroubra this Saturday 28 November for the annual Lexington Place Busking competition.

The place will be closed off for the all-ages event which will see budding local musical talent compete for cash prizes in the Youth and Open (all-ages) categories.

The judging panel will include famous rock musician, music advocate and proud local resident Lindy Morrison OAM and rising Indigenous hip hop star Corey Webster (aka Yung Nooky).

An annual event since 2012, The Lexington Place Busking Competition is a community-building initiative aimed at engaging young people living in and around Maroubra’s housing commission complex.

The competition brings some much needed positive media attention to the underprivileged area which has been tarnished by high levels of street crime in recent years.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore their creative aspirations, receive mentorship from music professionals, gain performance and networking experience and boost confidence.

There is no entry fee to the event and the performances will be accompanied by a free sausage sizzle, activities and giveaways.

Registrations will be taken until Friday 27 November. For more information email: busking@randwick.nsw.gov.au
