Randwick City Council has launched a community pride campaign featuring the faces of everyday local residents printed on giant street banners.

The campaign, I Am Local, celebrates living, working and studying in Randwick City. It celebrates Randwick's diversity and the everyday residents who make Randwick a cohesive community.

Randwick Mayor Ted Seng said the campaign is about celebrating what it means to be a local.

"The concept behind I Am Local is to use our 151 street banner poles to celebrate our everyday heroes, who really contribute to a sense of community in our city, and are proud to fly their face as a Randwick City local.

"We put a call out to all residents to share their story and tell us why Randwick City is an important part of their life. Whether they've been a resident for 50 years, or a student who just moved in, we want to share as many local stories as we can," Mayor Seng said.

In February 2015 a number of photographic sessions were held with registered participants having their portrait taken for consideration to be included on a street banner. An independent committee chose the 151 portraits to fly.

The portraits, printed on four meter tall banners, are now flying on street banner poles located in Clovelly, Coogee, Randwick, Kensington, Kingsford, Maroubra and Matraville until early June 2015.

All members of the community are encouraged to take part in the campaign by sharing their photos and stories on social media using the hashtag #iamlocal
