Malabar Headland

Last week, we welcomed the response from Federal Environment Minister Greg Hunt that Malabar Headland will not be sold or developed and 'will remain public land forever' after concerns that the Government had plans to sell the land to private developers.

The whole site should be made into parklands for the enjoyment of the broader community, not developed for the commercial gain of the government and the few who can afford to live there.

We are lucky enough to have an opportunity to create a legacy for our children just like our forefathers did with Hyde Park and Centennial Park.

Randwick City Council now looks forward to the Federal Government endorsing and allowing us access to complete a Coastal Walkway extension on the western side of the headland to link Maroubra and Malabar Beaches.

The Coastal Walkway is one of Sydney's most popular tourist attractions and this is a critical missing link will ensure the track extends from Bondi to La Perouse seamlessly.
