I am extremely proud to see stage one of the construction works at the brand new Chifley Sports Reserve on Bunnerong Road are coming to an end. This has been a five year project to transform the former Women's Athletics Field into a premier sporting facility and community park.
When Council took over the site in 2008, the reserve was in poor condition and the buildings in a state of disrepair. Now, following extensive planning, remediation and construction, we've transformed an old tip into a state of the art sports complex for our community. The site now includes:
* 1.5km of shared pedestrian/cycling paths
* two dedicated baseball fields
* new bubblers, rubbish bins and seats
* thousands of new native trees and tens of thousands of shrubs
* underground water tanks to irrigate using 100% recycled stormwater
* dedicated off street car parking for 180 cars
Information about the next stage of construction including a skate park and an all-abilities playground is available on our website.
