It’s that wonderful time of year again

Randwick City is alive with Christmas spirit as festive banners line the streets, homes are lit up with Christmas cheer and community carols are taking place across our parks and beaches.

Randwick City Council is presenting the Coogee Carols on December 20 and supporting a number of village carols, seniors Christmas concerts and community Christmas street parties.

Mayor of Randwick Noel D’Souza says Christmas is an important time to reflect on the year that’s passed and spend time with family, friends and loved ones.

“It’s easy to make the most of the Christmas break in Randwick thanks to our magnificent coastline, beautiful beaches and parks, and many upcoming community events”.

“They’re a great way to celebrate the spirit of Christmas, so I encourage you all to take some time out of your schedules and enjoy a night or two out with your family and friends,” said Mayor D’Souza.

Community Street Parties

Council supports community Christmas street parties by funding and facilitating road closures, public liability insurance and traffic control. Supporting street parties helps build a sense of community and ensures the parties are as safe and enjoyable as possible. Residents are encouraged to apply early for the year ahead.

Christmas lights for charities

Two charities residents may choose to support are Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation Randwick and the Make a Wish Australia Foundation. There are some outstanding displays throughout Randwick City including Frederick Street Coogee, Dacre Street Malabar and Barwon Crescent Matraville.

The Best Gift in the World

Council’s Christmas sustainability initiative has partnered with Origin Energy this year to promote environmentally aware and energy saving gift ideas. The website suggests a range of useful and ethical gifts from chooks and bees, to compost bins, car-share vouchers and solar panels, as well as links to charity gift shops.

Seniors Christmas Concerts

The Seniors Christmas Concerts hosted by Council are vibrant, joyous affairs with carols and variety entertainment. This year’s two concerts were held at South Sydney Juniors Auditorium and featured MC Little Pattie plus performances by swing outfit The Dominoes, The Sydney Children’s Choir and magician Lee Bonne.
