Mayor's Messages

Last week, Randwick City was hit with winds in excess of 94km/h and received 252mm of rain over three days, more than twice the monthly April average of 116mm.

Damage across the City included trees blocking roads and footpaths, shade-sails damaged at public playgrounds and tonnes of sand  washed on to the promenade, parks and streets adjacent to Coogee and Maroubra Beaches.

Council teams were immediately deployed to secure sites, with major clean-ups and repairs having taken place across the latter part of the week. Heavy machinery transformed the beaches of Coogee and Maroubra into what looked like construction sites, however I'm pleased to say that both beaches are now looking pristine.

My sincere thanks goes out to the thousands of experienced emergency services workers who did a great job providing information and support across Sydney and NSW. I wish to especially commend the Randwick SES, who did a fantastic job responding to over 113 requests for assistance. I also applaud the volunteers who embodied 'a sense of community' by taking time out of their busy week to lend a hand (and in most cases, a broom) in returning Coogee Beach to its rightful glory.
