Fallen tree on Carr Street, Coogee

Randwick City Council has deployed staff response teams across Randwick City in the wake of the storm that continues to rage across Sydney and greater NSW today.

Randwick Mayor Ted Seng said the Council's response teams are working with the NSW SES and other emergency service authorities with safety and security their main priority.

"As this storm continues to rage across Sydney, our first priority is to ensure the security and safety of our residents on private and public land," Mayor Seng said.

"We have a number of trees down blocking roads and footpaths across the city, multiple shade-sails loose or damaged at public playgrounds and large amounts of sand washed into the parks and streets adjacent to Coogee Beach.

"While the dangerous weather continues, we will be working to secure these sites for safety and will commence clean-up and repairs once conditions improve.

"I encourage residents to be careful and stay indoors if possible. My thoughts go to the thousands of experienced emergency services workers doing a great job providing information and support across Sydney at the moment," Mayor Seng said.
