Labor Party Councillor Tony Bowen has been elected Mayor of Randwick at a Council meeting tonight, Tuesday 25 September.

Mayor Bowen takes the reins from Liberal Councillor Scott Nash, who was elected Mayor in September 2011 but tonight did not seek re-election as Mayor.

Fellow Labor Party Councillor Noel D’Souza has been elected Deputy Mayor, taking over from The Greens former Councillor Bradley Hughes.

Mayor Bowen is the son of the late Deputy Prime Minister Lionel Bowen who served in Prime Minister Whitlam's cabinet and later as Prime Minister Hawke's Deputy from 1983 to 1990, and was Mayor of Randwick in 1951 and 1955.
