- Bachelor of Arts (with 1st Class Honours) in politics, sociology, industrial relations & history completed as a mature age student.
- 35 year career with Australia Post, Area Manager Randwick 1994, winning many management efficiency and innovation awards
- Chief of Staff to Minister of Local Government 1995-1999. During this time developed policy & legislation covering Local Government & animal welfare matters generally
- Have held numerous party positions including that of Local Campaign Director to Jeanette McHugh 1980-1993, Ernie Page and Paul Pearce
- Have served on Postal Union Management Boards and on the ALP's Disputes and Credentials Committees and various campaign strategy groups
- Justice of the Peace since 1977
- Treasurer of the Double Bay Chamber of Commerce, 1991
- Licensed at various times as an owner/builder

Occasional guest presenter at the Randwick Historical Society and a regular contributor to Matters Arising, Hummer, Labor Recorder and other journals of labor history
