Background

Randwick City Council commissioned SGS Economics and Planning to prepare the Draft Strategy. They undertook the research, analysis and preparation of the recently endorsed Randwick Economic Activity Study, which helped inform the preparation of this Draft Strategy.

The Draft Strategy identifies the economic strengths and challenges for Randwick City, focusing on our strategic employment assets, such as Port Botany and the University/ Hospitals precinct; local businesses; links to the wider business community; geographic location; tourism, culture and recreation; transport; and governance system.

Draft Strategy Recommendations

The Draft Strategy recommends a number of actions to support businesses and promote economic activity across each sector of RandwickCity's local economy.

In summary, some of the key actions are:

  • establish a Business Leaders Forum
  • prepare individual town centre strategies, incorporating identity/ branding, to ensure the vitality of each centre
  • continue to support the work of the chambers of commerce, Tourism Association and Business Enterprise Centre
  • undertake a 'Red Tape' review to streamline Council's processes and improve certainty for businesses
  • investigate the potential to establish an Industrial Lands business forum
  • continue to support Council's 'shop locally' initiative
  • continue to maintain and support tourist precincts while addressing the social impacts
  • continue to support and sponsor the Local Business Awards.

The Draft Randwick Economic Development Strategy sets out the full list of proposed actions.
