Neptune Street, Coogee
Wylie's Baths is a rockpool located on an intertidal rock shelf below Grant Reserve, 500 metres south of Coogee Beach. From the elevated timber decking, the baths offer spectacular views towards the north overlooking Coogee Beach. It is adjacent to the Eastern Beaches Coastal Walk.
The baths are open 365 days a year and an entry fee applies. The baths can also be booked for special functions.
The baths were opened in 1907. At that time it consisted of the concrete area to the west of the pool, some decking and change rooms. In 1912 the deck was extended and in 1959 the change rooms were replaced. A kiosk was added to the deck and the iconic chequerboard pattern was introduced on the balustrade and change rooms. In 1995 the entire decking was replaced due to disrepair. The elevated timber decks and the caretaker's cottage remain from the original structure.
The baths are listed by the National Trust for their significance as one of Sydney's first mixed-sex baths.
The Wylie's Baths Trust manages the baths under a sub-lease to Randwick City Council. It is an independent body responsible for the care and control of the baths.
